Santa Barbara Kennel Club/Purina Pro Plan – BREEDER'S SHOWCASE

For a long time many people in our sport have felt that breeders are not
receiving as much recognition as they deserve. We believe that there is a
way to bring back the importance of the breeder who is truly the future of
the sport.

The Santa Barbara Kennel Club and Purina Pro Plan have now combined their
efforts to recognize many, many more top breeders. On August 29th and 30th,
2009 the first annual "Breeders Showcase" will become a reality in Santa
Barbara, California. This is a competition designed for breeder's to
showcase their continued breeding program.

So that each breeder's entry can receive the maximum exposure, this
competition will start at the Group level. Each entry will consist of two
dogs and/or bitches of the same breed or variety with at least one breeder
in common. Anyone can handle the entry, the breeder, the owner or a
professional handler. Neither dog must be entered in the regular classes,
but either or both may be. By not requiring a dog to be entered in a regular
class we wish to encourage retired dogs to be able to take a turn in the
spotlight and show everyone just how lovely they are today. Each of the
seven groups will be judged in the Breeder's Showcase competition Saturday
immediately following completion of the regular breed judging at the show
and prior to judging of the regular groups. The winner of each group will
compete on Sunday for Best Breeder and Reserve Best Breeder prior to judging
of the regular Best In Show competition. The second place winner in the
group from which the Best In Breeder's Showcase was chosen will be eligible
to compete for Reserve Best Breeder in Show.

There will be a separate entry form included in the premium list which will
be available from Jack Bradshaw Show Superintendent. Purina Pro Plan is
sponsoring this effort with some outstanding prize money. Best Breeder In
Show - $1,500; Reserve Best Breeder in Show - $1,000; Each group will
receive – First - $500; Second - $400; Third - $300; Fourth - $200.

This first one of a kind special attraction, the Breeder's Showcase, will be
in honor of the late Irene Bivin – a legendary breeder. Additionally, on
Sunday we will also be honoring a breeder representing each of the seven
groups, who has shown through their continued breeding program outstanding
commitment to the breed that they love.

This is an opportunity to showcase your long term breeding program and be
recognized for those accomplishments. It is time for the breeder to be
recognized for their contributions to the sport whether that breeder is able
to actually show their dogs or not.

We invite all exhibitors, handlers and breeders to join with us in the
venture to finally showcase the breeder – the backbone of our great sport.
