Okay -

Here's something fun.. We started doing this on Dal list because it gives
everyone an idea of where you came from and where you are headed....

How and why did you acquire your first GSD and why and how did you get into
showing or performance...

Some of you know the story, but I will quickly do a synopsis of my intro to
GSDs...

As most know, I was born into showing many years ago.. I finished my first dog
at 8 years old and as they say, the rest of that is history. Now fast forward
many years.....

In early 1999 I was laid off from the employer I worked for and switched jobs.
At that same time, I also split with my then beau of 6 years (mutual
disagreements). In April of that year, I went to work for a great sales company
with about 60 sales guys... I fit in right away (got into an argument with one
with 48 hours of starting there!)... Anyhoo, word got around that I showed dogs
and I was the "DOG LADY" (I was called other things too)... Everyone came to me
with questions and I helped several find pups in various breeds, etc.

About that same time, one of the nicest guys in the company had come into some
money - his ex-wife had sold their house and they split the profit from it. He
purchased some land in Wisconsin and was now ready for a dog. He kept coming
back and asking me dog questions... He knew he wanted a shepherd, but we had
to talk about fences, where to get one, obedience, etc... Finally later that
summer, he mentioned that that had gotten his first GSD from a show breeder and
did I know him. Turns out it was Paul Johnson and I suggested he call Paul.
Paul had gotten two puppies from Randy/Cathy Darnell's litter that produced
Mini Me and her brother. So Thanksgiving of 1999, Don went down and got his new
pup.. I helped raise Simmie from a distance for the first year of her life..

Anyhoo, about a year after that, Simmie's dad started hounding me to let him
take me to dinner, buy me lunch or whatever to thank me for all the help with
Simmie. At this same time, I had just brought a dal down from Canada to finish
and had him entered in 10 straight weekends of shows (yes, almost three
straight months)... So it was hard to figure out a time. Finally, I agreed to
go out with Don, but it meant that I had to drive about 45 minutes to what I
thought was no-mans land. I didn't think much about it at the time (Don was
divorced, lived too far away and no would NOT date someone I work with).. Well,
that first date led to another and so on.....

And as they say.... the rest is history... We have Simmie who is 9 years old
and has several titles and Pepper, who is 2 and has a title and is waiting to
grow up.. We have 3.5 acres, an Invisible Fence, dalmatians that come and go
and I still show. Don still works for the same company and we both still
commute back and forth to no-man's land... And that dalmatian I brought down
from Canada - I finished him in the 5 shows in 10 days and specialed him the
other weekends and put him in the Top Ten for the year...

So what's your story?
