They use to use saltpeter in the process of making pickles. As far as I
know they don't use it anymore. My mom told me my grandmother use to sneak it
in to my grandpa's food. LOL! Speaking of pickles ( I make about 75 jars
a year and give most of them away) if you go to Wal Mart they have a packet
for making dill pickles. They are ready in 24 hours!! Awesome!

The one year that I lived in the dorms at San Jose State University, the
rumor was that the milk was "doctored" with saltpeter in the attempt to curb
the male libido! Well I had never heard of this chemical and I thought it
was a hoax! But I will say this, if they did spike the milk in the dorm
cafeteria with saltpeter it did NOT work! I know this for a fact!!!! lol. FB

Cooking/processing don't remove the hormones, etc if they were present
upon slaughter of said animal used for food.
GMO grains, the same; there is no way to be rid of "round-up ready" in
GMOs. Best to avoid those grains altogether.
Unless you're on a well, there are more unregulated chemicals in processed
water than you would ever suspect... Far more than is present in meat, and
far more dangerous too. There are antidepressants in every city's water
supply, and most often, things like euthanasia solution too along with
fluoride and chlorine (both neurotoxins, BTW)!
The only way to avoid it all is to grow your own, or know your grower,
become a "foodie", and get your water from a well in a non-agricultural area
after it is tested for those regulated water pollutants.
Much of the meat that goes into dog food is what is "not fit for human
consumption" and even less regulated than what is "fit". In defense of the raw
feeders, at least the meat fed is generally approved for human
consumption, so therefore of a general better quality than what goes into many
commercial dog foods. I know when my dogs were fed exclusively raw/homecook,
people always thought I was throwing big BBQs by judging my shopping cart's
contents LOL

With the current markets and cattle feed with injections, not to mention

I like steak tar tar, if you grill it with a bit of dill and onion. And
sushi, it is fine if you deep fry it.
