HIT is not a performance title. It is only a certificate that says your dog
showed some nterest in sheep for a limited amount of time in a small area, with
or without help from the tester. It requires no training, nor control other
than that required to keep the dog from injuring sheep.
The lowest level of a title is the HT - Herding Tested - which is very basic
but does at least require that you can demonstrate a little control of the dog
when there are sheep round. You need to be able to call your dog off sheep in a
larger arena than the round pen usually used for HIC testing. The next lever,
PT, requires the dog have a bit more control - but both of these tests are far
from the actual herding titles HS, HI or HX.
