Jackie....I know I answered you privately but figured I would send it to the
list too...here is my opinion...
OK, to try answer your question, we all have our opinions of a good judge; I
have seen good judges withhold ribbons and bad judges withhold ribbons; if a
judge is doing their job and following the standard which we hope they are
then if, on THAT day in THEIR opinion, they withhold a ribbon, it is just
their opinion on THAT day. Withholding a ribbon does not make a good judge
or a bad judge; it is the judging that they have done in the past, but that
is just my opinion. I don't think there is an actual YES or NO to your
question but that is just my thinking. I would not show to a judge that
puts up "square" dogs and many exhibitors feel the same way....square is not
in the standard but these judges get assignments....just know your judges
and go from there....I don't think we are losing any good judges because of
withholding ribbons but blanket comments like "dysplastic" from judges about
something they actually "don't know" can be detrimental to the serious
exhibitor...JMHO
