I know there are a lot of ignorant, silly, and crooked judges out
there...and I do like to get the goods on the really stupid ones when
possible. Of course, there are those who think I'm all of those things,
too, and some who think I am not so bad. This is true of all judges. I
have friends who hate some judges I'd go out of my way to show to.
There are judges on this list whose company I enjoy, and whose judging I
can follow and even discuss, but I know people who won't show to them at
any time.
On another list, I recently had to put paid to a comment from
someone about a well-known all-breeds judge...this total beginner from
Arkansas said that a particular judge wasn't too bad when he was sober.
As it happens, I have known the man for almost 40 years, and he doesn't
drink...but this is how nasty rumours start!
People sometimes say things in jest that are taken as gospel...and
these things can be very hurtful and even damaging to a judge, as they
can to anyone.
This particular judge has been around dogs for a very long time.
She was a successful breeder and exhibitor, and she is still provisional
in GSDs. She has attended a few Nationals, judged her local GSD
specialty, and claims to really like and enjoy the breed. It is
entirely possible that she made a comment that was misinterpreted... or
maybe she actually said what we've been told, but was joking...we will
never know. As any intelligent person would do, she denied the entire
story. I do not know this person myself. However, I do know how
stories get twisted and turned and how innocent comments get turned into
death threats...........
I think we ought to wait and see....
