You are exactly right Joan, and I was on the board
with you sharing the frustrations and drama of the
issues.
It would have to be a privately funded, individual
effort. No approval asked, none needed.

All this is wonderful but where would we get the
money to do either project?
Linda and I tried to start this up but soon found
people were not willing to spend the time and
their own money to do the interviews. I had
contact with Lloyd Brackets granddaughter as an
example. Video producing costs enormous amounts of
money.
As to the IS, other clubs do it. I have beautiful
breed standards here in full color. AKC helps with
this project also. The problem is, when I was on
the Board, that only one artists drawings were
considered and many of them were incorrect and
slanted and the demands of the artist put an end
to the project.
I believe the present money woes will not let
either project go forward now.

I have always loved your idea of the interviews
and would encourage you to just do it.
I also love the idea of having an illustrated
standard, but if this volatile issue is given to a
committee again it will probably never happen.
Would love to see Carolyn or someone with some
artistic ability to just do it and publish it and
let the critics take their shots. Then someone
else can publish their contrasting illustrations
and we can have things to compare and contrast and
ultimately something useful. Maybe!
My wife Linda and I are very different. I will
plan the work, write it, gather the resources and
set a schedule. Her motto is, just do it, get it
done and if it is wrong make the necessary
corrections. She usually gets more done that the
rest of the world.

This is a perfect example of why committees don't
work.
A few years ago I decided to have a series of
video interviews done, and was going to do them at
my expense. I wanted to interview Bob Penny, Dave
and Martha Rinke, Cappy and Gloria, Gail Sprock,
Joan and Fran Ford, and a number of others. Some
members of the Board heard what I planned to do,
and decided to get involved. They assigned it to
someone who had a background in video work, and I
decided it was best to let them take it over as
they had a very different idea of who to include
in the intereviews.
That was the last I heard of it. Bob Penney died,
then we lost Joan Ford, then Gail, and nothing
ever got done. The person who was to head up the
project then died.
That too is why I have not let anyone take over
the Junior Handler award.
I still need donations, and it is a great amount
of work, but I have no committee to answer to.
Daphne Hereford has been a big help, but I keep
the project to myself. PLEASE SEND ME DONATIONS,
PLEASE.
Tom and Vivian have worked endlessly to now have a
committee taking it over. It will be interesting
to see what happens. I recently talked to Carmen,
who is working on it. The work Tom and Vivian did
is amazing, but now others are working on it.
