I didn't miss your point, I was actually agreeing with you. The sheer
number of candidates this year has proven one thing, changes are needed. I
was
more than willing to initiate some of the changes, as I thought I could help
with the questionnaire. I believed that if the parent club was not set up to
handle this, we needed to take action and do it ourselves. Hopefully the
parent club will take action and incorporate a program to allow candidates to
campaign, but even then, if we think it still needs improvement it is OUR job
to
try and fix it.
We need to become more involved with solutions. There is plenty of
complaining already.
Now, my true concern is the thirst that some people have to take over the
club and create a new guard. If all the positions are filled by people who
are
only concerned about their own personal agendas and not the needs of the
membership, well, we would not move that much farther ahead, right?
So, this questionnaire was an attempt at letting the candidates express some
of their points of view. I am very proud of the project, and all the help
behind scenes to put it together.
We will tweak it, and improve it, and God willing, do it again. Regardless
of whom wins this election because I do believe that some people will get
corrupted by power, and it is OUR job to keep OUR club management in the hands
of those who will benefit OUR membership.
No, I am not campaigning, I am not running for office. I believe in the
power of freedom of expression. I know I am so politically incorrect that it
makes some people nervous, but I say it again, if we don't stand for something
we will fall for anything. The self serving politicking done by some of the
candidates, the personal attacks and the mudslinging (yes, it is happening)
only shows me the true colors of those doing it. Will it cost me friends?
Maybe.
One of the problems we face is the declining membership. Is there any
wonder? Who would like to pay to belong to an organization that gives you so
little in return? Wake up, we don't need the parent club to show our dogs, we
could read someone else's Review when and if they get it, the competition at
the
last few years Futurities (entry wise) is a joke. The awards are nice, but
we are continuously faced with the limitations to win them. That's why I was
against limiting Selects. The faults of one judge should not be the reason
to penalize those who are doing the right things. What is the slogan for the
Pit Bull followers?: Penalize the deed, not the breed.
The parent clubs mission needs to actively be one to improve education about
the breed, education for judges, more benefits to the membership. These are
some of the changes needed. Futurities and Nationals need to be the
highlights of the years for those breeding and exhibiting. And those same
people's
needs need to be addressed first and foremost.
I do believe that some of the candidates don't care about the rest of the
membership or about the breed. We need to start looking for the good
candidates, those who have put the breed first, and their own egos last.
