This is quite simple but seems complicated unless
you've been through the process.
1. The Board appoints a chairperson for the
nomination committee. The Board itself does not
nominate.
2. The Chair selects members of the committee to
be on the committee and to suggest names.
3. The committee discusses the names and selects
its slate of nominees which goes to the members on
the ballot. The difference between those who run
by petition and those who are nominated is that
those who are not nominated by the committee have
to file a petition with a number of signatures
from members.
4. Those running by petition and those nominated
by committee go on the ballot for the election.
All have equal standing.
It does not mean that the Board favors those
nominated by the committee as a board action,
although individual board members may have
preferences as we all do.
It should not mean that anyone has an inside track
or should be elected because they were nominated
rather than running by petition.
It should not mean that those with name
recognition should be elected. Talk to some of the
people who have served on the board about
candidates on the ballot. Some people running in
each election we have are going to contribute
much, be of sound mind and work together with the
board for the good of the breed and the members.
Some are not. Some are good people in their own
right but in that setting are not, well, enough
said!
