White dogs in Aussies, shelties, etc are the result of a double merle gene
rather than epistatic white like is in our GSD and other shepherding breeds.
Interestingly, breeds that have the M-m Merle gene present in the population do
NOT have the e-e white gene.
It is well known that being a double-Merle causes eye/ear problems as well as
fertility issues, usually sterility.
