The UKC also allows long coat GSD's to be shown in conformation, there are
many long coat champions in UKC. Why can't we allow long coats to be shown as
a separate variety of GSD in the AKC ring? It would really help our entries,
just think of how many GSD kennels out there have at least one otherwise show
quality long coat standing around in some kennel run. Also it would
encourage additional breeders to keep those super nice long coats that at the
moment
either end up as pets or brood bitches. There is a DNA test available to
breeders now to help keep the long coat gene in check, so we need not fear
long
coat gene cropping up in our litters without knowing its a possibility. I
think we should be taking advantage of what these coated GSD's can offer our
lines, we should be showing our long coats, not white GSD's. I know what some
of
you will say..its just a minor fault, they can be shown...what I am saying
is your right it is just a minor fault AND if they were in their own variety
they wouldn't have to be faulted for being long coats AND we would all get the
chance to see & maybe utilize some of these fine animals.
