I agree that it totally depends on the health and longevity of the lines you
are working with. I bred my half German girl Margo to The Real Deal at 7.5 The
vet thought she was about 4. I did two AI's and was hoping to get at least 2
females to continue the lines with. She gave me 11. :0) I ended up keeping a
male. Go figure. She had been bred once before and had been an easy whelper so
I thought I was safe. We AI'ed because she is small but she didn't have any
trouble carry the huge litter and the whelping was a smooth natural process.

I honestly think it depends on the health and whelping history of the bitch and
the longevity of your lines and varies from bitch to bitch. If the bitch has
never had a litter before, I probably would not breed her at this age.
