What is great about our Club is all our members and our
Board and our German Shepherd Dog Breed that we all choose
to serve ....for OUR service. We are all a living entity that
makes it perfect and yet not so perfect...
but it is what we ...WE....ALL CHOOSE! Much like our Country

What's Right with our Club
The GSDCA has been around for a long time now. It
has seen its share of changes, challenges,
difficulties and wars. It has survived.
That it has survived is a testimony to the
strength of the resolve of the members to their
dogs and their sport. We are a tough lot.
Boards and committees are the focal point of
public discontent, real or imagined. Someone has
to take the heat. So, year after year we look for
those people who will serve on our boards or take
the chair of a committee or serve in some capacity
to make this club do the work it is structured to
do. Sometimes our elected and appointed leaders do
not have enough information and they get it wrong,
but more often than hot, they have far more
information than those they serve and strive to
make good decisions, move the club forward and
solve problems.
But that is the place for pressure, problems and
criticisms to go - to the top. Well, like the
governmental structure of our nation, the top is
really the bottom and the power is with the people
not the elected leaders, but we have to blame
someone - don't we?
So here's to those tough souls who are willing to
set in the hot seat, take the darts and arrows and
weather the storm. They deserve our gratitude and
support. Yes, when they make a decision without
all the fact, we need to give them the facts and
ask for an explanation. It's OK to not agree. Life
is like that. Boards and committees are like that.
But in the greater perspective of our club and its
function, we have done well overall for a long
time, and we will continue because of the quality
of people that we have serving as our officers and
committee members.
They work hard, travel far, attend long meetings,
listen to boring speeches, tolerate irate people,
sleep on god only knows what kind of beds (some
good, some not so good, but all have been
contaminated by a plethora of previous visitors).
And then there are the airports and the airplanes
and.
They deserve our thanks and our understanding.
There is a lot good about the GSDCA and its
people. The usual question we ask is, "what do
they do for me?" Maybe the inverse question is,
"what do we do for them?" Maybe we should
occasionally take the time to send a note of
thanks for their work.
There is a lot good about this club. There is a
lot yet to do as we move into our future and the
challenging times of economic uncertainty,
anti-breeder legislation and the ever present
animal rights warriors. We've done well thus far
and can continue the work as we support one
another in our chosen sport. This is a good club.
It's good to be a member!
