When I went on the board, the president at that time Bob Williamson asked
me to check on the corporate status of the club. I couldn't find the
incorporation in New York. So, I searched by the date of Incorporation 1913.
I
then found it, and also found that in 1916 the club name was changed to the
Shepherd Club of American. The board had decided to drop the "German" from
the club's name.

I took it on and changed the name to The German Shepherd Dog Club of
America. During those years, anyone could have taken the name.

And, that's the truth.
