Yes Joan!....That is a big part of the problem...I started in 
German-line/protection dogs when I was 20, but as a kid my dad showed great 
danes, he quit because of all the BS...I always loved the look and intelligence 
of the German Shepherd.....my goal was to have a combinedÂ schutzhundIII/AKC 
champion....I was told by folks on both sides of the fence that it would never 
happen!.....I know there have been a few, but not many ( Dan Smith had a 
few).....I've come full circle...I bought two German line bitches and bred one 
twiceÂ to my "Show-line" Army son......canÂ they win in the conformation 
ring?.......nope, but wow...the drive and temperaments and pigments on these 
guys are mind blowing!...they can most certainly obtain an IPO title, or any 
other working title....which begs the question, is our conformation standard 
too extreme?....( and now we're fighting about white dogs).why is it Joan that 
theÂ venues of the dog sport don't cross or overlap? is it that most 
German/Show crosses can not win in our ring?...when I got into shows my buddies 
told me I was going over to the "dark side" no pun intended....one of the 
patriots during the revolution with England ( I forgot which one)Â made a 
statement that applies to all of us........he said if we don't all hang 
together now, we'll all hang separately later...think about it...Ed HillÂ

Part of the problems are: ( and these are generalizations so do not jump all 
over me. ) 
We have been divided by our breeds versatility. 

There are the herding people.... 

There are the performance people.... 
There are the conformation people.... 
There are the German lines ( or other imported ) people.... 
There are the white people ( or other colors) 

Few cross the line into the other factions when breeding or showing. Those that 
do are to be commended. 


Then there are those who are so sick of the political BS in and out of the ring 
that they do not belong to or compete anymore within the GSDCA. 

OK....how do we fix it? 

We have created our own problems.
