I thought I would share with you some of the information gleaned from the
latest call:

LOTS and LOTS of handlers were there...including our own Marj Brooks and
<>from other breeds, Cheryl Cates, Bill McFadden, Larry Fenner and Mike
Stone.
Jack Bradshaw was there.
Many of the California dog show vendors were there, including Tigers.

Bill Shelton (advocating the formation of a "political action group")
.JoAnne Steffes from S. California....lots of Doberman people from
here, there and everywhere; lots of Great Dane and Daschund people - the
head count is estimated at around 500, maybe.

The AKC was there.

We lost this round and now its on to appropriations. Jeff Leacox, our
lobbyist from SB1548 and again now I believe - apparently spoke to the crowd
afterwards, indicating we'd learned from this - how serious they are and how
prepared we must be for the future, which in and of itself, isn't a bad way
to end if we can get something useful from it and then put it to work
for us.

<>The author of the bill - Mr. Levine - apparently at the speakers podium,
when he heard some cheering from the fancy in the hallway - made very
disparing remarks about how breeders didn't get it..."just listen to them
out there" and from what can be determined by reasonably intelligent people
who were present....he wants this bill passed as much as we want it to be
passed over and since "the win" is very important to him (regardless that
the representative from San Diego explained how they'd tried it there and it
simply did not work), in all likelihood, he'll pull out all the political
stops at his disposal and then some to insure his success....
.which we'd all better stay on top of, acknowledge, prepare for and be
<>ready with an argument the rest of the committee can buy into....

<>I'm sure more tidbits will be forthcoming as people get back home and turn
on their computers.

<>Oh, and I understand MSNBC and many NBC affiliates were there
covering this
today - so be sure to watch those channels this evening for "breaking
news".

<>I also heard from a very reliable source (yes, really reliable!) that at
this moment, there is currently OVER 600 similar pieces of legislation being
considered all over this country - meaning those of you who think this
doesn't concern you or can't affect you - well, 'tain't necessarily so
anymore.
