Carolyn, I don't doubt what you saw, but was that in recent years? Was it
at a major Sieger show? Last year, I attended the North American Sieger
Show and saw very few dogs pacing off-lead. Also, I've watched video of
many Sieger shows and the dogs were gaiting, not pacing. (Not gaiting as
well as our Americans, but gaiting nonetheless. <G>) In fact, what the
handlers usually do is get the dogs gaiting pretty fast while restrained and
then let go of the collar. Naturally, the dog continues to gait.

Maybe we should train the dogs to gait along side of owner/handler OFF
LEAD,as the Germans do.
Normally most judges ( at sometime during their judging)ask each dog to
go around individually .
That would be the time that it could be done off lead. Remember
Kristal running around the ring by
herself, when her lead was dropped. Wasn't that a Picture of a natural
true suspensedf gait!!

I like the idea, but isn't it against AKC rules to have a dog off lead?
