The AKC won't acknowledge them as a variety, they pretty much have made that clear. To be a separate color, there would have to be a class for such. Also, nothing puts pigment back in a black and tan like breeding to a good sable...black and tan to black and tan after many generations also washes out colors. Different than pigment....
