How I wish I could have been at that M&E show and met Madam Dodge! And Mr.
Loeb.
That was another world,long since disappeared. The show was on her gorgeous
bent green grass front lawn,Tables with white linen table clothes and
napkins. Silver trays loaded with sumptuous food and liveried servants
serving
you, All the women wore hats. And the English judge Madeline Pickup ,who
judged
the GSDs wore white gloves to check the testicles. It was a very quiet
peaceful all breed show . . If my memory serves me,Mrs Dodge had 6 rings set
upon
her front lawn. Lots of shade from large trees. Food tables set up near the
front veranda. Of course Ernie had been there a number of times,but it was a
first for myself and my husband Dr. Miller--Overwhelming to say the least.
Since Ernie was our handler,he got permission from Mrs. Dodge to take us
through
her Kennel. She had some gorgeous Pointers at that time,an Afghan,and a
Russian Wolfhound. It is another wonderful memory of the early days of wealthy
kennels with kennel managers and many fine show dogs. Helen Miller Fisher
