I offer the following example which I believe demonstrates the "fairness"
of the weighted method.
PS: I am a retired Actuary so numbers are kinda my thing. Of course I
have been retired for 12 years so maybe I have it wrong but I don't think so.

EXAMPLE
This example assumes that a voters 1st choice would get 3 points, their 2nd
choice would get 2 points and their 3rd choice would get 1 point.

If there were a 100 people voting and 34 wanted John, and only voted for
John and no one else, the maximum number of POINTS (not votes) he would get
is 102 (3X34). Assuming that no one else voted for John, that would be
that.

If Bob got 30 first place votes, 20 2nd place votes and 10 3rd place votes
his total points would amount to 140 points.

If Jim got 20 1st place votes, 13 2nd place votes and 20 3rd place votes
his total points would be 106.

And lastly Jane got 16 1st place votes, 26 2nd place votes and 24 3rd
place votes her total points would be 124.

The rest of the votes went to other nominees but they were not in the
running.

SUMMARY___________________________________________________________

SIMPLE "ONE VOTE" METHOD: Using the simple one vote method, John would do
specials even though only 34 people out of the 100 would vote for him to
do anything. Everybody else thought he stunk. Bob would do Dogs and Jim
would do bitches.

WEIGHTED METHOD: Using the weighted method would result in Bob doing
Specials, Jane doing dogs and Jim doing bitches. John would watch from the
sidelines.

Clearly more people wanted either Bob, Jim or Jane to judge than wanted
John. In this simplistic example you can see that two thirds of the voters
wanted nothing to do with John. Yet he would be judging the most important
show of the year if we used the simple one vote method.
Under the weighted method 66% of the voters wanted Jane to judge
something. 53% wanted Jim to judge something and 60% of the voters wanted Bob
to
judge something. But only 34% wanted John to judge anything. Based on this
why would we want to have John judge specials?
