Carolyn, I did not read your post as being critical of the web site or of the
webmaster/mistress. I saw it as what I think you intended – a focus on the
loss/cost factor of the club overall. That includes the potential to save on
the arena but loose entries and interest.
You are always articulate, and right!

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Website etc/ Really??
Once again....my comments are not a criticism or the Web Site nor the person
that handles the site..as obviously in these
times we MUST have a web site. This will be the last time I respond trying
to make my point clear....or clearer as .
I am tired of some thinking they need to "justify" the web site to me when
discussing a $46,000 cost!
Our National is the biggest and most important Event of the year for this Club
and its exhibiting members and their dogs
and hopefully for the promotion and education about this Breed. Yet ....Many
of the Parent Club members are paying the
price for LOSS within this Club by having the next few Nationals in an area we
cannot get to with a dog without a three day
drive each way. ."supposedly" to cut down on LOSS & COST.
YET.....we who do support the National are ( according to Zoe's cost below a
part of the "income stream"...i.e. )
"Membership dues"......."National".........."Futurities".....
Shouldn't we then consider looking at ALL aspects of LOSS & COST ...including
our Web site? Are we saying there are
SOME expenses that can never be looked at or reconsidered?? REALLY???
JUST THE NATIONAL BEING HELD IN ST. LOUIS IS ALL WE NEED TO SAVE THE GSDCA,
Inc.!!?? REALLY???
We personally don't drive a Rolls Royce.......we drive a used Toyota!!

I agree 100% the Design of the GSDCA website is a great tool for everyone
members or not.
People that want to learn about the GSD go to the GSDCA website to learn to
cheapen it would be
a disservice to the German Shepherd Dog we love so much. For the store it needs
Security and that
alone does not come in a cheap package. Websites for any Club is a asset and
needs to be ran in a

Here are the income streams for the club
- Membership dues
- National
- Futurity
These have always been our income streams They pay for the Review, website
and all other
expenses of the Club While the Website generates income for all the above, it
is not credited
for those on the P and L
To use a quote by Ed
We have a Rolls Royce website that generates new members, ads etc for the cost
of a used
Honda. It is a necessity in this day and age - not an ego thing or something
fun. Without the
website, our bleed would be larger
Your average small business website costs about 150K to produce - this is an
average cost
In order to do the store and run a web server with security and certificates
cannot be equated with
small personal websites. There are backups and reduncy to protect and store
all club data from
all committees, rather than on a committee chairs personal PC or paper. Until
we had the website,
committees often lost all their data (paper burns, gets thrown out by a family
member etc).and
hard drives crash.
