Theresa....it sounds to me like you just love the Purina site no matter

if you had to drive three days to that site and three days back for 4 out of

Yes...the grounds are lovely...the arena itself for long striding German
Shepherd Dogs to have room to gait...not so much.
I am told the surface is hard on the handlers also after three days. ( I
cannot speak to that )
Sure it has all the accommodations...every National site is required to! It
is no more special than many others in all the
accommodations you mentioned. I can see how many would love the indoor
facilities to sit and watch...but actually exhibit
your GSD it is not that great as far as I am concerned in size, surface,
noise...and general space around the arena.
There are several nice sites available with all the same qualities you seem
to think are Purina only...and many better..
In response to your question about rotation and how many people will show
up.......? What about with rotation how many
actual exhibitors and dues paying members will show up and show their
magnificent animals from all parts of the Country.
Many dogs and owners cannot get to some sites......and they are animals you
will never see. With rotation at least EVERYONE
gets a reasonable shot of exhibiting at a National every two or three
years.......... That should count for something.
This same argument for Purina is not working for those of us that are giving
up on it sooner or later..........

There was never a vote for rotation just a survey with most members not even
responding. Why
does the GSDCA members not vote by ballot to see how many members really want
rotation or would
just like to stay at one location? The Purina Farm still does offer
everything needed for all events, including motor homes available for those
that do not want to haul their motor home to the grounds.
Several nice motels, restaurants with a beautiful setting offering a great
place to promote the GSD
to the public. With rotation how many people are really going to go to the
show except friends,
families, handlers or those involved?
Nice to keep the Show List active as I do not like Facebook just not the same
as this forum.

It
appears to me the most important issue of the majority of
the members of the GSDCA is the location of the National
Show, I remember the very spirited debates and
arguments years ago when this list was very active and the
views of many were discussed for days and days... some kind
of survey or vote was initiated by the board ( I think it
was the board) or somebody which resulted in the members
favoring a rotation of the show,... east to middle to west
to middle to east etc etc..... at that time I was against
rotation , I had my reasons and believed a yearly National
in the same location mid country was the best way to do our
National... the facts I based my opinion on are still valid,
as a matter of fact those facts are even stronger today, the
biggest being the difficulty of flying large German
Shepherds across the country! I listened to the elegant
arguments of my opponents ( mainly the late great Dick
Whalen and the presently great Evan Ginsburg) they explained
to me why rotation was crucial to the spirit and enthusiasm
of the members! They were right! So I did a flip-flop and
now I believe as they do... it seemed that rotations were
going smoothly until for reasons I either don't
understand or don't believe the BOD decided to go to St
Louis for three years! .... and in my opinion a serious
mistake, the mistake is not so much in the three years, the
serious mistake is the inability ( or the lack of effort )
to get OUT of St Louis! I think this has done more damage to
the general membership than any other issue over the past
ten years or so, and Lord knows we've had some issues
with Hunte, Margery, Law suites and things I can't
remember... but National Location " Trumps" them
all! If the board really wants to honor these
"truths" that our club wants true rotation of its
National show, they can't wait to the last minute to
find locations! The New President should place a high
priority on finding spots in the three regions and book them
ASAP... and make this club great again! If he or she does
that we might get Ruth to join again! Not many wiser than
she is! Ed Hill
