Carolyn has it right. We often do things thinking of other organizations,
and try to adapt it for ourselves. We must avoid that mistake
The idea of regional representation is just that. We look at government and
say, they have a person from each region, and then those people work for
their region. That does not work for a national club, since we work for the
breed, not one area of the country.
We did the same thing with futurities. We took after the horse breeders
to set up a futurity system. But, horses are all born on the same day, (for
record purposes) so they are the same age at the futurities. Without
considering the age and growth differences we cram our futurities into a small
time period, causing some very different maturity factors in. We can solve
that by allowing entries into more than one show, or spreading the shows
out in more months.
We need to not be caught up in thinking the parent club is broken into
regions that have different issues. We are a national club supported by
regional areas, but with one standard, one breed, and one purpose.
