[ SHOWGSD-L ] We Build Majors

We live in the Midwest and are building or trying to build a major in Des
Moines. We email people we know that show in that area and ask them to email
us back their number of dogs/bitches they are entering and we track this to
ensure a major. If it does not go a major before closing, we all know, or
kinda of know since there are those who are not notified or do not notify us.
This way we track the major and know if we are close and whether we will
actually enter. It saves money, builds camaraderie and overall gets us all at
winter shows to show our beautiful dogs that need majors. If we did not do
this we sure would not finish our dogs as quick as we do.
Now the numbers system is there because of the dogs entered the year before,
therefore the numbers keep falling because of people not entering shows. Scary
to be sure. Less dogs being shown does not mean that there is less competition
or that the competition is not good. It just means there are not as many dogs.
More does not always mean better. I remember in the "old days" people build
majors with dump dogs or pets. That is not what we are doing, we are gathering
people and letting them know we are going to be there with __# of dogs and
hopefully we can get a major. I like this and thank gosh we have computers now
a days to email people. I think it is just nifty! But hey we are happy to
brag that we finished 3 GSD's, 1 Cardigan, and received 2 ROM's this year!
