We were spoiled by the "D" litter, Dragonslayer, Destiny and Dakota. They
were all finished by 16 months.
Destiny was Winner's Bitch at the national and number two select. She
entered the national, and finished that day. Behind me in Specials was Dave
Rinke with the next year's Grand Victrix. Then the next following year Dave
judged the National and gave Destiny her second Select. I showed her to
Select both times myself.
Dakota was Reserve Winner's Dog at the National the same year as Destiny
going Winner's Bitch, (1982) and he also went Select another year.
Dragonslayer, after he finished, went to live with Marie Bavaqua, and
before he got to the National, he died. The year Dakota was shown at the
National the first time, Dragonslayer went with Marie to Texas to see her
brother and missed that National.
Someone sent me the record of Dakota producing for the Futurities, and it
astonished me. I have since lost it. If someone knows it, it would be
interesting to read. Maybe only to me, but who is more important than me?
It was not the great judging, my handling or fortune. They were fantastic
animals.
Or, at least that is how I remember it. Can that be 34 years ago? It
seems like yesterday. And we all know what a terrible day yesterday was.
I could be wrong.
