I know exactly why the Goldens have such a great entry and the German
Shepherds do not
I steward at at least 7 all breed shows a year and I only do dogs that
do not need to be put on a table.
I have stewarded for just about every large or medium breed, and can
tell you this.
1. very few dogs in the GSD ring are owner handled.
2. Other breeds...very few dogs are handled by professional handlers.
3. The dogs that are handled by peofessional handlers are only in the
open & breed classes
4. it is very easy to look at a class of Great Danes of 20 dogs and
pick out the 5 professional handlers(because I have seen them for years)
5. Many of the other breeds have exhibitors come in in motor homes and
the pot luck all meals and have a great time and they enjoy themselves
win or lose.......they also help each other......I know a lot of people
do not beleive this, but when you steward and are sitting in the ring,
you get to see people
who share bait, hold each others dogs....take dogs in for other people
when someone owns more that 1 animal for winners............brushed
other people's dogs
the list goes on and on
