As you all know, I have been among the missing lately. At least my Rescue updates have been... Writing these sometimes takes more out of me than one might think. It opens up the floodgates and the faces of all of the dogs that did not make it out come rushing in. That emotion coupled with the ongoing illness and ultimate loss of our "Granddog" Frank pushed me over the proverbial cliff. Please bear with me... This weekend saw Sharona land safely in Maine with Board Member Steve Reierstad. She is a 9 month old sable pup who came from Murray County shelter in Chatsworth GA. LHSH was happy to cover the cost of her vaccinations and subsequent spay. Eva's pups arrived at Lilac Grove in NH and are ready for adoption! Eva was the dog who was abandoned at the shelter right before New Years..covered in filth and emaciated, she was pulled by Carla Brown and whelped a litter of 10 pups less than 24 hrs later. These three were the last of the litter who were seeking a forever home! Your donations made it possible for LHSH to assist with the expenses of Eva's recovery and the vaccinations for all. Paw Paw made the trip from W VA to SPARRO with LHSH Board member, Joe Maringo. Paw Paw (aka Pauley) weighed in at a heft 130 pounds and was found to be HW positive. He is a stunningly handsome boy, even with his excess weight. He will be staying at Joe's for his HW treatment and rehab before hopefully finding his forever home. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this "pull" !! The video of Paw taking a turn around the yard at Joe's with the Labradors spoke volumes....if he could say "Thanks!" I am certain he would! This is the GSD who was LITERALLY pulled off of the euth table by the ACO. Ryan, a one eyed 13 year old boy was abanonded by his owners in his a decrepit boarding kennel for a year! He lived in a 4 x 8 damp pen with his main contact being a volunteer that only went sporadically because she felt sorry for him. She contacted LHSH and transported him to Youngstown where he was met by our Senior Guardian Angel Pat Lukos. Ryan is living the good life at Pat's! Duchess was facing euthanasia in Carroll County. This 8 month old pup had so much life to live! LHSH covered her expenses which enabled her to take flight to Angel Ridge, where she found her forever home within 2 weeks! Sandy Bruner from Samuri Shepherds contacted us regarding her son Jacob who is in 5th grade and would like to hold a fund raiser for LHSH! We will be sending him various items for him to display! Jacob would like to sponsor a needy GSD who is in Rescue! We will be happy to accomodate him!! The members of Last Hope, Safe Haven Inc. thank you for your unflagging support of this breed we love so much.. So many GSDs are living bright, hopeful futures because you cared!!!
