Better than dumping her at the pound. She did the right thing by returning
her to you, IMO.
You know, we all want what is best for our dogs. We want responsible owners
and homes. But, when things go wrong, for whatever reason, we hope the owners
will do the right thing by OUR dog.
It is even possible she made up the story about why she had to return the dog.
Perhaps, the dog reminds her of her deceased husband. Maybe she is just so
overwhelmed right now. Compassion is needed for both the owner and the dog.
Very sad all around.

OMG about 8 years ago we adopted out a GSD to a wonderful couple. The woman
brings Crystal back today and tells me this huge story about how she can
talk to her and since her husband died Crystal has told her she wants to
come back to 4 Paws. She brought her back and ak she is leaving the dog is
crying and begging her not to leave and she is saying "I know you want to
stay here." I really hate to leave her. I would rather just keep her but she
clearly wants to be here. OMG I wanted to ask her what planet she is from.
This poor dog is now here and totally lost. A 9 year old GSD who has been
with this lady for 7 years. My heart is breaking for this dog. Nothing I
said made any difference because the dog spoke to her and told her she
wanted to be here. UGH
If anyone knows someone who can give a very well trained, sweet GSD who
loves to kiss cats (really one of our cats came up to her and she kissed
it). Please let me know. This girl lost her man and now her home and
deserves a loving family for her senior years.
