I have given my own pit shots (now its oxytocin) for years and years. My vet told me that if administered IM (muscle) the drug would act faster, but giving it sub-q (uder the skin) was fine too, just takes a little longer to work. I too buy it buy the bottle from my vet. I do have a question for those of you who say you've never given a shot -- what do you do after the bitch is through whelping to make sure she has expelled everything? I've always given a "clean-out" shot when I was fairly certain she was through. Good thing too- cuz sometimes you get puppies you weren't expecting!
