Have your vet run a lyme titer to see exactly what the Lyme load is. We had to
have this done with our Border Collie rescue.

Hi Shepherdville,
We had our yearly vet appointment with Rena today and told
him about how she has gone so downhill just in the past
couple of months. Our vet watched her walk and trot, felt
her all over and pulled, stretched and tugged on her back
end and found her very stiff and sore. He agreed with us
that something was definitely off. Since he had to pull
blood for a heartworm check anyway, he pulled extra and
did that quickie test for Lyme disease plus 2 or 3 of the
other, more commonly seen tick-borne diseases (it has a
name but I can't remember). DAMN if she didn't come up
positive for Lyme!! I was absolutely gob smacked and still
am. I only pulled a couple of ticks off either of them
late last summer and they never really go anywhere these
days, but she does present as a Lyme case what with the
painful joints. So we were sent home with a few Tramadol
pills for immediate pain relief plus I got the go-ahead to
put her back on a loading dose of glucosamine/chodroitin.
And, of course, we have a course of Doxy for the Lyme.
We'll see how she goes and play future treatment options
by ear. Still very surprised!
