Did they provide you with the regulations? I would request it. I have read everything at that link and I fail to see where it applies to you. Following the appearance by Rin Tin Tin as the Grand Marshal for the National Western Stock show Parade in Denver on Jan. 9, I was contacted by a USDA veterinarian and told that I needed a USDA license to "Exhibit" Rin Tin Tin. (pictures of the event are posted on our website at www.RinTinTin.com <http://www.rintintin.com/> in the Latest News section) Naturally I immediately complied with their request, completed the application and veterinary visit forms and the process is in the works. For informational purposes, what the process involves is at least two unscheduled visits by one of the USDA veterinarian to the facility at which the dog is kept, an inspection of the animal(s) to ensure they are healthy, an application fee of $10, and then a license fee of $30. In our case Rin Tin Tin's revenue is donated to ARFkids, an IRS non-profit organization ( www.ARFkids.com <http://www.arfkids.com/> ) so listing our "income" was not necessary on the application. Information regarding the USDA criteria can be found at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/subjects/animal_welfare/ My daughter traveled to Denver with Rin Tin Tin to serve as the Grand Marshal for the parade. She was the subject of both newspaper and visual media (which we greatly appreciated) and all was well with the world...until I got the call from USDA. The down side to the USDA application process is that my daughter was told by the USDA vet, who visited her home in Pearland. Texas to inspect Rin Tin Tin, was told that it could take 90 days to complete the licensing process which could delay our efforts with the Petco Spring A Pet Fundraiser of which ARFkids benefits. ARFkids relies solely on donations by individuals and corporations, and the Petco donation is significant in the overall funding of the organization to provide dogs to special needs children. In the meantime we are in a hold pattern for the Petco Spring A Pet Fundraiser at which we usually bring Rin Tin Tin as part of an education program to acquaint the public with Service and Pet Assisted Therapy Dogs as well as information provided by the Rin Tin Tin Canine Ambassador Club to inform the public about Responsible Dog Ownership. Anyone who would like their local Petco fundraiser to suppor ARFkids should contact me or the local Petco manager. ARFkids (A Rinty For Kids Foundation, incorporated) is an approved recipient of the Petco Foundation.. During the interim period while USDA decides whether or not Rin Tin Tin is being properly cared for, I can assure the GSD community he is, in his well cared for state as a house dog, likely either crashed on the leather sofa or in the middle of the bed waiting for my daughter to serve him his dinner of select raw morsels. My question is - how many breeders and exhibitors have been approached by USDA to comply with these regulations?
