Now I actually LIKE this idea!!
For years the idea of "Regional" Nationals have been tossed out there and I
absolutely do not like that idea.
If we call it a "NATIONAL".....I believe we should be competing with ALL the
dogs all over the Nation or
Nations that choose to enter......not just dogs in our "Region",
But the idea of a "Working" National and a "Conformation" National is very
intriguing to me. Almost never
do we get a chance to see any Herding ( EXCEPT AT UTAH ) or Obedience, etc. at
our Nationals. We have
too much time and work and money invested in the Conformation to be able to do
it all during that time. I have
many that are involved in the Herding and Obedience that tell me the same thing
about never getting a real
chance to see the Conformation part of our National.
Utah was the ONLY National where we were able to enter the same dog in Herding
and Conformation!
I believe Canada handles it by just having Conformation? The simplicity of
the Canadian National is one of
the reasons most of us absolutely love the Canadian National. They have not
gone to great efforts to make
it a complicated horrifically busy week.......but simply a lot of work put into
a great Conformation National!

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Two Nationals
Is the number one performance interest of the membership conformation? And by
asking this question I am NOT disrespecting or ignoring the other aspects of
our sport i.e. Herding, obedience, protection, rat hunting etc.....Would it be
possible to hold two Nationals? One strictly for conformation and maybe
obedience, and one National for all the other activities? This would allow us
to consider more sites because we would no longer be looking for the very few
sites that serve all purposes but not servicing them equally! St Louis seems to
work well for the performance working events, but poorly for conformation (
poorly for our breed at least) ... how Does Canada handle this? What is offered
at their National? The two National plan would perhaps place a hardship on
folks who show in conformation and the other events, but how many do it? The
club needs to toss around ideas to make our National better and more inclusive!
I don't believe this is the case today ( this was NOT a rant) Ed Hill
