Quickly -- asking for friend of friend, unknown breeder in far off state
from me:
I was asked if this is common, normal for a litter of 4 out of 5 puppies to
have died & "doesn't that reflect badly on the breeder"?
I replied that I really don't know as I don't know the breeder and have not
had any experience with this. (And I had recommended different breeders
closer to home.)
I said, however, things happen with litters (things I am familiar with) --
sometimes a litter has been very small, sometimes a bitch has been lost,
both from very good breeders who are ethical and doing everything right.
Etc.
Can anyone shed light on this?

p.s. I don't know, as I didn't ask, whether the puppies were stillborn or
died shortly after birth. I think (?) the couple brought home that 5th
puppy.
