Many of us on the list will have seen the film "PharLap" about the legendary Champion Australian Thoroughbred race horse...and hopefully, many knew it was (basically) a true story. Well, here's a bit of trivia for you... on this date, March 20, in 1932, Phar Lap won his only North American start -- the Agua Caliente Handicap at Agua Caliente Racecourse in Mexico. His time for the 1-1/4 mile race was 2:02 and 4/5, a track record. The six-year-old Phar Lap died one month later and the cause of his death remains a mystery today. During his 4 years of racing in Australia, Phar Lap won 36 of 50 starts. Just something to tickle the mind..................
