Quite awhile back someone said I go back and forth from Texas to Canada like
some people go to the convenience store, and they aren't too far wrong.
Because of this, I have had people inquire the best route coming from the St
Louis - Indianapolis -Memphis area.
37 trips in 7 years...well you sure get to know the different routes, and I
tend to, well, maybe go just a mile or 2 over the speed limit.

While the only interstate coming direct into Beaumont is interstate 10 it
has many area's of construction to the east. John frequently goes to Baton
Route and gets held up in single line traffic.

The best route if you are coming down IH55 is take IH40 west from Memphis to
Little Rock, then the loop around Little Rock ((you will see a sign that
says Texarkana, that is the loop), then 30 west to Texarkana.
From there, 59 south...and it does make a few jigs and jogs so watch your
signs...you will be following ones that say Houston. Stay on 59 south to
Tenaha then you will see a sign that says 96 south to Beaumont, and that's the
route.

A good portion of both 59 and 96 are now 4 lanes, but the whole road is very
well laid. There are a few towns but they really don't slow you down much.
Speed limit through most is 45 and both highways out of town are 70 mph.

As to gas, it is usually fairly low around Sikeston on 55 or just south of
there...either exit 67 or 19. Just north of Memphis you will find some low
prices too. Coming into Texarkana at exit 7 there is a Flying J for those of
you that have cards, and it is priced good, and the next exit, state line rd
exit 2 is a Pilot that is cheap. On 59 south of Texarkana Atlanta is
usually priced well.
There are plenty of rest area's on 55, 40 and 30, but there is only one on
59 south of Texarkana, so that is often my last dog stop. It is 4 hours from
it to Beaumont.

Hope this helps. If anyone has any further questions, always glad to answer.
Travel safe!
