For those of you driving to the national, please be aware of toxic blue-green algae. If you allow your dog to drink or swim in water with blue-green algae, it will most likely be fatal. The odds of animals surviving exposure are very slim, so please take the warning seriously. The lakes we *know* are affected are Milford State Lake and Tuttle Creek State Lake and Perry Reservoir. It would be prudent to be aware of this problem. Some lakes are completely closed to all activity -- boating, swimming, etc. Here's a link to a story from Topeka TV station KSNT: http://www.ksnt.com/news/local/story/Toxic-blue-green-algae-closes-Milford-Lake/A04OWlWDcUafSB09KRC_8g.cspx or http://bit.ly/mSYeBR Here is a link to an item from the Kansas parks department -- note it is from July, so is NOT a complete and current list -- just the latest they had on their website: http://bit.ly/qBXvLL Stay safe! - Cheryl May, Manhattan, KS ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2011.
