In Virginia in 2003, we had no choice-in August, we had an earthquake-the first I'd ever felt. The dogs and I raced outside and it was over in a minute with no damage, but it was all over the news that evening. Early September brought us Hurricane Isobel, and we lost out last mature tree. Streets in our little neighborhood were impassable, no electricity for some for 6 weeks. We cleaned up, found and distributed water, cooked and ate as a community. One week after Isobel, a tornado touched down less than a mile from my house, and thankfully dissipated right afteward. So if you live in Virginny, you take your chances!
