[ SHOWGSD-L ] Tick preventative why use it??

I would like to hear from people who use Frontline  Plus for tick 
preventative WHY do you buy it and how do you think this  is helping your dog? 
 
I have never had a tick problem here, but all  of a sudden I found a few 
ticks on a couple of my dogs. I would think after this  LONG COLD winter here 
in 
Ohio ticks would be gone. 
 
I talked with the Frontline people today and told  them after using their 
Frontline Plus I still had two dogs with ticks on them  and they where ALIVE 
and 
feeding. I pulled them off and found a couple more.  This was 3 days after 
putting it on.
I was told the Frontline Plus kills the tick  within 24 - 48 hours..So in 
this time frame ticks are biting our dogs and  they can still get Lyme  disease 
even after you put a preventive on them. 
 
My question is WHY do we buy it  then?
 
Is there a tick preventative out there that kills  the tick before biting the 
dog? 
 
Guess I am confused!
