I can only respond to the behavior and allergy issues. I witnessed an Aussie
(15 yrs old) viciously attack its owner. The dog went for her face, and it was
pretty scary. The owner said this had happened several times in the past
couple of weeks and that she was getting the thyroid checked. I thought to
myself that no dog of mine would be coming home from the vet if we had even one
such episode, but I kept my mouth shut. Not my dog or my business. Sure
enough, there was a thyroid problem. The dog was treated, and the behavior
stopped. More than a year later, there have been no behavior issues.
With regard to allergies, I don't know. One of my girls tested normal for
thyroid (other two have not been tested yet), and she is itchy and has food
allergies to wheat and corn. She missed on her last breeding. When in coat,
though, she has a gorgeous coat. Maybe I will have the thyroid checked again
before the next breeding. Thanks for the post, Illeana. Something to think
