I agree w/ Tari.

THINK of every possible contingency. Usually co-ownerships involve bitches,
(unless a breeder keeps their name on a stud dog or a syndicate is formed to
finance a big campaign I've never understood co-owning males), so let's
focus on the girls. Specify, if she'll be shown, who pays for what. Is there
a
cap on expenses? At a later date, let's say puppies back are involved...who
pays what? who whelps? at what age are puppies "chosen"? (Careful or you
might be growing litters out beyond the time when companion people think they
are
"cute".) If you are whelping and are going to compensate the other party for
puppies sold is it before or after expenses? Which expenses? A minimum per
puppy? Does it count as a "puppy" when it is born or passes the vet? What
happens when one doesn't pass the vet? Who guarantees a puppy that is sold if
something goes wrong later? What if a co-owned dog gets sick? Dies? Has a
singleton litter or doesn't get pregnant? If either party wants to terminate
the agreement, how will you handle that? Put everything in writing.

I adore contracts because this way there's no room for guesswork and hurt
feelings, (besides, when/if it comes to puppies from a co-owned animal, you may

be talking about YEARS from now, and who can remember that, lol?), but bottom
line, you need to have a good gut feeling about who you enter into a
co-ownership with and no matter what you think of (or forget to think of!), it
comes down each party "doin' right" by the dog and each other.

Finally, if you aren't rreeeaaalllyyyyyyy sure, have someone who has been in
dogs a while read your rough draft.

Denise,
There is no better Contract for Co-Ownership than Believing in the person
you are planning to Co-Own your dog with.? Only Co-Own your dog if it is
Exactly what you want...otherwize you will never be happy.?
Sit down now and write your thoughts out on paper.? Put yourself in the
other person's shoes.? Would you do this if it were you co-owning??
Some people co-own to get the dog's bills paid.? Some co-own to just get
pups back or 1/2 the stud fees.? Some co-own to get the dog out of thier back
yard.? Some to keep the dog with them but want to have a "Bigger" name on the
dog.?
Think this over before you jump into anything.
