Hey Helen,
Yancy is a "Grand" Champion!! LOL

I'm really looking forward to watching the show on the tube later this month -
scheduled to run again on January 23rd on Animal Planet per ringside
announcement - so I can see what the viewers saw. There were some super nice
dogs at the show but the Bloodhound really can't be judged until you see him up
close and personal. He is flawless! The Poodle was my second choice based on
the animals actually walking in the "Best" ring.

Actually, judging seemed depressingly slow to judges in the crowd! Since it
was a live broadcast, everything had to stop while commercials ran. The judges
continued to watch groups of animals, check expression/stacked views, move the
entire group, etc during commercial breaks - just didn't do individual exams.
There was a LOT of 'down' time. Then the green light would pop on and the
judges had a very small amount of time to do individual exams - remember 25
dogs per hour [3 Groups and Best] in a two hour broadcast time. During
"camera time" they didn't even really watch the dogs going around the ring so
side gait played small part in selections - just down and back.

Gennie was absolutely flawless in the breed [just my luck, right? ;C)]. Never
took a wrong step and definitely showed beautifully for the win. However, she
was not as ON in the Group as I have seen her in the past. Jimmy played with
her and continued to bait her up but she wasn't 100% on. Please don't start
throwing rocks - I LOVE this girl!!! The Old English just didn't do it for me
but as an Aussie breeder, I can say that the Aussie was awsome, and I still
don't know who the dog is. He was absolutely outstanding in the breed and the
same in the Group. That was one of the major upsets at the entire show -
Poppers, the Aussie, was there but not ON due to some really bad stuff going on
in the real world. It was a shame............. would have been a really
interesting competition had they both been ON!

There was lots of flash, pomp, and circumstance, associated with this show and
everyone should attend once just to experience it first hand. However, the
stress on the dogs was high and judging seemed to take forever. I'd do it
again in a heartbeat but will do a little more planning next time - scoping out
grooming earlier, setting up earlier, maybe trying to park close so the dog has
"down time" in their normal crate/vehicle, etc. We stayed in Brookville about
45 minutes away and would definitely do that again. Lots of room to run,
grass, and quiet, stress free, time for the dogs.

Just my take on the Invitational...... and my "graaaaand" champion playing in
the back yard today!!
