Any of us that got into this Breed because we LOVE the Breed .....will likely never leave it. We sure won't. We will quit showing in time....and breeding dogs in time. But we won't throw in the towel on this Breed. To me.....it is the ONLY Breed for me. I love a lot of other dogs and Breeds......but likely will only own a Germans Shepherd Dog....and DEFINITELY will only breed and exhibit ONLY German Shepherd Dogs. We started because I loved the dogs and the Breed .......had a litter or two....went to a show joined a Club...and was hooked. We'll always be "hooked".......but won't always do this because of age ( ours ) or money ( lack thereof ) We could never "throw in the towel" because of other people ....or dogs ......or losing .......or winning......and certainly not because of any Board. We all suffer through something. We've all lost dogs we love, friends we love and our own youth and health.......but we love the Breed, the dogs, the competition, the people, the shows, the puppies seeing other puppies others breed......and most of all a really GREAT German Shepherd Dogs and truly good friends!!! Can't stop now! There are more of all of the above to come......friends, dogs, wins, losses.....Evan....<G> Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.Marhaven.com I have watched this thread with interest. I don't know why anyone has to quit anything. I used to be a Cub Scout. I used to be in high-school. I used to drive a 1950 Oldsmobile convertible. I used to be single, I used to be young. I used to watch black and white television and listen to Innersanctum on the radio. But, I don't do those things anymore, and I never gave them up. I just moved on to other things. The sport of dogs is and always has been interesting, frustrating, tough, challenging, and fullfilling. At times we win, and at times we don't. All hobbies and sports are like that. Those that give you a win, keep you there, and those that don't, lose their allure. In bowling at some time you bowl a perfect game. In golf you will eventually hit a hole-in-one. In bridge you will at some point if you keep at it, have a grand slam. And in dogs you will finish a champion at some time. In all of those hobbies, you will have ups and downs, but so long as the ups outweigh the downs, you will continue. In the end the memories and the friends sustain us. The dogs come and go, and over the years they all become memories. But the people I have met, the friends I have made, the memories of those who have gone on without me, all remind me of how great a sport it is, and has been. German shepherd dogs and the challenges they provide us all are a great experience, and so far tremendous fun. When it is not, I won't give up, I will just move on. At that point the most I hope for is that I gave a good memory to at least one person. That seems enough for me. But, I will never throw in a towel. I have learned TONS about animal husbandry. My children learned about compassion and responsibility. ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2010.
