This makes sense.? I see the Nationals as a showcase for breeders.? It is way
for those of us in the Breed to see what is out there and winning.? It is the
opportunity to see, in person, prospective breeding combinations.? It is a BIG
show for people already involved.? That is not to say that the folks in the
area of the Nationals, won't come and see the dogs or get an education on the
Breed.? But, is that the primary objective of the Nationals?
I feel the responsibility to educate the public on our Breed is on every GSD
breeder and every local club.? That is where people will get interested and
educated and perhaps become involved.? This requires every one of us to be
open, friendly and willing to talk to new people.? If one is busy getting a dog
ready or going into the ring when approached, invite that person to your set-up
or to talk after.? This is what I see as sorely lacking in our Breed.?
I also see a total lack of respect for people looking for pets and performance
dogs at conformation shows and in clubs.? I don't get this attitude at all.?
Since many of our pups go to these same homes, shouldn't we be embracing these
people?? If they have a great experience with their dog, they will be far more
open to get more involved in the Breed and look for a show dog next time.? That
is how most of us started, with that obedience dog.?
As for location.? I like the rotating idea the best.? I may not be able to go
to them all, but if I have a dog that is worthy I will find a way, no matter
where it is.? Long sentence and JMHO.

To be realistic the German Shepherd Dog Club of America does have a
responsibility to
educate the public about this Breed and we ALL have a responsibility help in
education
and P.R. by being open and friendly to people all year long. This is a year
round
responsibility...and that can be done on so many local levels. It is not
just
an "annual"
responsibility.
But in reality The National IS a BIG DOG SHOW that is the annual culmanation of
a lot of
hard work by Breeders, Trainers, Exhibitors, Handlers and Herders and
Futurutiy

Maturity winners to showcase their dogs....and some that just come to watch.
But it IS about the dogs!!
There will be no National and therefore no chance to 'educate the Public' or
'bring in new
members' OR SHOWCASE OUR DOGS if we have National Dog Shows that we cannot
get to with our dogs!!! Am I repeating this yet again...................

This is not about what I want or what area we think the National site would be
good in......
The reality of it all is that things are rapidly changing and we have to adjust
and be willing
to change for the sake of our Breed and our own shows and our National.....that
is IF
we want to bring in Exhibitors ......and have the dogs to be able to come along
also!!
For those of you that want it in every corner of the Nation ......pick a spot
with all the facilities
for all the requirements......and then call your Airline of choice and try to
make arrangements
to fly with your dog and if you can get a German Shepherd Dog there in a #500
crate.....and
the price. Try it now for this years National!! Might as well get an
early start.........

Once again, the question is whether this is just a big dog show or if it is a
showcase to help educate and promote thebreed. The terrier group show is a big
terrier show - and has little interest in promoting a specific breed to the
public.
Westminster has become one of the ways the AKC has to do PR for itself.
I believe the primary purpose of a parent club is to promote the breed
through
education. You cannot educate people if you have no comtact with them.
