I can tell you that the interest in showing GSDs increased inthe buildup to the
Albany National. We got new regional club members and some new parent club
members. We also got some former exhibotors to come and watch and a couple of
people now have show puppies. It was because of the national. We still see
residual results as peple from other breeds who went to the show talk about it
and cause others to be interested. By he way, it also got some new GSDs
involved in other events besides conformation. It also got new exhibitors make
the trip to Ft Collins. All because several years before they saw a National
within reasonable driving distance. This can happen throughout the country as
the show moves around.
Tha fact that several of the new members became discouraged with the parent
club a year or two later was not due to national location but parent club
policies and actions.

Kathy we do need new members, but having the National rotated to different
locations is not going to increase membership....Oregon, Florida, Denver, St
Louis,Concord N.C., Columbus Ohio,Perry Georgia, Lexington...this year
Beaumont, next year Ohio, year after that Utah...these are the past and near
future National locations...so if location changes equaled new members,
we'd have no problem with increasing membership...the National needs to be
more stationary for economical reasons...the days are over for large numbers of
members flying and driving all over the country......I was told that one of the
best handlers in the country, Ken Tank was not at the Northern CA shows because
of client expenses ( no Ken did not tell me this).....I have some ideas about
how to increase membership and I have expressed many over the years right here
on this list....but changing things, many times is like peeing in the
ocean...the color, temperature, and depth remains the same....Ed
