I am one of the "old fart" judges. I continue to ask for a loose
lead---even if I get 1 lap. From then on if handlers choose to race I
continue ask them to slow down. If they do not I am sure a number of good
ones have been lost in the race. An animal cannot be properly evaluated
when all you see is a flash before your eyes. At one show I judged this
year I finally got a young handler "trained"---he slowed his animal down--I
could then see it and YES he won.
