I know it's not exact but I was taught the first move over 2 using
progesterone was LH. So, figure 2 days to ovulation then 2 days for eggs to
able
to be fertilized then the eggs are viable for 2 days.
Obviously I keep testing but by doing so I learned also not all girls rise
as quickly after ovulation...I have had girls shoot up in the 20s 2 days
past ovulation while some are in the low teens.
I think sometimes w/ frozen or even chilled some vets wait for a magic
#...say 19-20+ and if that's the case, yes, I can see that a gal could be bred
too late.

surgical implant on my bitch when the progesterone was still very low -

was looking at the L/H surge. Success !!!! She had a beautiful litter !
In the past, this particular bitch, going by progesterone only, had ONE
puppy, and then NO puppies. This repro vet said she thought my bitch was
being bred too late in the past, going by the progesterone numbers. So .

. there you have it - exceptions all over the place !

Wow do beg to differ on that. I ALWAYS do progesterone and I ALWAYS do
testing, no matter what way a gal is bred (natural, TCI, etc.)
Now, when I say "progesterone" I mean an actual lab value, not a color
changing test. I won't use those.
And I keep testing until one test comes back in the high teens/low twenty
something.
The problem I see (frequently!!!) is people stop testing too soon and many
don't know what the #s mean and that includes vets.
I don't miss the days when we didn't test and a bitch had a week to ten
days of possible "due dates".
