One of my dogs had this flu when it was on its first big cycle....that was
back in 2005 I think. One of my boys had contracted it after being in a
show in MS. Man dogs from Florida were there showing and the flu had been
rampant at the greyhound race track at that time.
A few days after the show my boy had a 104 plus temp. He lost 20 lbs in 2
weeks. Thought we would lose him. We tried 1 antibiotic and it did some
good, switched to another that did a bit more good but just could not shake
it. A friend/handler had fought it with a few dogs he was showing and said
the only thing that would totally knock it down was chloramphenicol. Boy
was he right. Gave it for 10 days and noticed huge improvement by the 3rd
day.
Would I vaccinate? No. But I am not a proponent to support vaccination.
Reason.......since then, I do as I do for myself. I ensure I support
their immune system better and touch wood, have not had a problem since and
have
had the dogs places that many have been reported sick after shows.
