[ SHOWGSD-L ] The Weird Shedding Problem

I have it from reliable sources that this is yet another
sign that we are headed for a hard winter. I met an old
Indian medicine man last year who assured me that the signs
were there for a hard winter. I questioned him about the
wooly worm, the tree bark, the deer droppings and many other
signs that I've heard they use, but in each case he denied
any knowledge of those signs. So I asked him what signs he
read to assure him of his prediction and he responded, "Many
white men go into wood, cut down many trees for fire wood.
Going to be cold winter."

Many people on the List have mentioned that their dogs are
shedding
excessively this year. I have a bitch who always blows her
coat
about 4-6 weeks before going into season. This time she
*really*
blew her coat -- like I've never seen before.
While at the American Sieger Show this past weekend, I
talked to many
people who told me that their dogs have been blowing their
coats like
crazy. The coat will start coming back in and then they
blow it
again. Or, they shed constantly for weeks. Or, like my
bitch, they
blow their coat completely in a matter of days.
I wanted to blame commercial dog food, but most of the
people I've
talked to are *not* using the same brand of dog food and a
few feed
raw. Also, they are from many different parts of the
country. I
don't know what is causing this. Perhaps it is some
additive common
to most commercial dog food, or unusual weather phenomena,
or
something in the air???
I don't know, but I'm not going to look for another brand of
food at
this time.
