Possibly that is how and why someone came up with that descriptive
phrase........teaching.
I think it helps to remember that the early standards were written by folks
who owned and worked around horses and livestock, and those descriptive
phrases that made it in or perhaps a few that didn't make it into standards but
were still used were common, part of every day vernacular and everyone at the
time knew what they meant and were speaking a similar language. Not so much
today, lol! Phrases like "deep", "stands over a lot of ground" (doesn't mean
long BTW), "cobby", "lay-on", "lay-back" and dozens of others probably need
some definition for someone who didn't grow up around animals.
You want to have fun? Ask five people to describe "single track".
