Dr. Zoe is right, as usual....
This is not as simple for everyone as just getting a
divorce. Without a relationship with the GSDCA, the WDA does
not have a connection with the SV. So they will have to
establish one or go through the USCA - which 'ain't gonna'
happen any time soon. The USCA and WDA have not been
friends, and the USCA will be after WDA members big time.

The SV is to WDA what AKC is to us. They are a registry,
award the titles, keep the records, set the standard,
approve the X-rays, etc., etc. If we decide to compete in
the world of schutzhund, we will have to either organize
under the SV to meet those standards, or get AKC to do so.
AKC has no reason or motivation to do so, I'll bet, and for
us to do so, could be a real issue. SV has for a long time
wanted us to adopt their standard. Their focus and
interpretation as to what a GSD should be is, well,
different than ours. Their standard is almost identical to
ours but the history, interpretation of history and of their
standard comes out in a different image and expectation of
what the dog is and what it should look like and how it
should function. Therein is the problem.

Organizationally, it is not a big deal. We keep going and
doing what we do, as does AKC, SV and USCA. The WDA has a
big problem in that it has no standing with the SV or AKC.
If we choose to enter the world of the SV, we will have to
conform, or create a sub-organization that will conform to
their demands and do things their way. Do we want to create
another WDA???

Or can we split the GSDCA into two venues with separate
registries and standards? I would think AKC might want to
weigh in on that. You see, it is not the separation and
divorce that is a problem, but the custody hearing. How do
we proceed from here? Maybe there are two big issues:

1. What do we do with the dogs that come with the new
members, should any WDA members join GSDCA expecting to
continue with their sport? Many of those dogs are dual
registered with the SV and AKC. Some are not. What do we do
with the titles on those dogs? Those people dearly love
their dogs as we do and are not going to just throw them
away to get our dogs. They are committed to a sport and the
dogs that excel at it. Can we accommodate that and provide a
future for the dogs and the programs they are involved with?

2. What do we do with the people who are involved in that
sport? While the parents fight and divorce, it is the
children who lose the most. These are good people, committed
to a goal and to their dogs. They have hopes, dreams,
expectations and have invested much of their time and
effort, as we have, in their dogs, the relationships in the
sport and the system that supports it. This will be a huge
transition for them. Some may be willing to change venues
and join us in the AKC show circuit, but most, I will bet,
are committed, not the GSDCA, AKC, SV, WDA or USCA - or even
XYZ... They are committed to their dogs, their friends and
their hobby. Can we give them something to meet their need?

This does not affect me. I just keep doing what I am doing,
mostly growing old and wishing I could go to more shows and
visit with my friends. I will not affect many in the GSDCA
or on this list. But it may be life changing for those who
have to choose where to place their membership and how to
proceed with their dogs.

Just thinkin...
Dave...
_______________________________________

Just like we need the AKC to compete in events, working dogs
require the SV to compete and breed
The SV is control of all GSDs world-wide
We are the parent Club for the USA, and we are the ones that
deal with the SV. The WDA deals with the SV through the
GSDCA

This is a bit over simplified

Working dogs need the SV for their titles, their Koerung and
to breed

Importing and exporting world wide depends on the
relationship between the SV and GSDCA in the USA, the SV and
the GSDCC in Canada ad nauseum
